Mass Comm Day Oct. 20th 2009

Mass Comm day in Old Main 320 featured a 3 person panel discussion involving how social media is affecting regular media. Kerri Quierrel of the American Cancer Society along with David Neff and Jordan Vidour talked about a topic that I believe will change the face of media forever. Sites like Twitter, Myspace, Facebook and other social networking sites will be the main platform for businesses and even traditional media outlets to reach out to a whole new audience. With newspapers going on a decline and younger people in the 18-32 demographic that most media outlets are trying to reach, it is inevitable that these social networking sites will be the new platform for businesses like Kerri, David and Jordan's non-profit organizations to reach out to get people join their cause. Sites like Twitter and Facebook won't just be about letting people how you feel and what your doing on friday night, it will be about spreading agendas and reaching out to people everyday to join causes that you are passionate about. The next few years will be very interesting on all media fronts as this new direction starts making headwaves.
